Tsonga Suffers Shocking Loss

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has suffered a shocking loss in the Aegon Championships which is happening in London at Queen’s Club. He was beaten by the Australian player Marinko Matosevic in the straight sets yesterday.

Matosevic was criticized a lot right before this match for some of the statements that he had made about the female’s game in his recent interview and also for what he had said about Murray’s new coach. Some people had even called him ‘Pig Headed, but, the Aussie didn’t reply to any one of them and just did what a player should do. He went out there on the court and talked through his performance.

Matosevic was absolutely brutal against his higher ranked opponent Tsonga who was actually the favourite to win this match, but, let alone winning, he wasn’t being able to even limit the damage.

Matosevic should get more plaudits for this victory because he played almost the whole match with slight injury. He had twisted his ankle in the initial parts of the first set and there were fears that he might not be able to carry on. But, he did so and he had an extremely determined look on his face. He desperately wanted to prove a point to his critics.

In the post match interview, when he was asked about that injury, Matosevic said, “I got really worried initially. I thought it would swell up a lot, but, thankfully, I was wrong. I got taped and I was fine after that.”

“It’s actually the blow that I took on my hip after slipping, that was troubling me more. But nonetheless, it’s a win for me and that’s what matters.”

In the next round, Matosevic will take on the Australian Open Champion Stanislas Wawrinka.
