Mardy Fish comfortably made his way into the 2nd round of the Dubai Tennis Championships, defeating Germany’s Andreas Beck of 6 – 1, 6 – 1 on Monday. The American tennis player had a mixed kind of year till now, missing in the 2nd round of the Australian Open and defeated by 388th ranked Albano Olivetti last week in the Marseille quarterfinals. However, he did help US rout Switzerland 5 – 0 in the Davis Cup.

Fish broke Beck two times in the 1st set to lead 4 – 0 on Monday and in the 2nd, he broke 3 times before finishing the game in 57 minutes. Fish told that it is good to get through quite early in the tournaments, but it gets difficult from here on out, for sure. He has never played him before. He assumes that he has played better games, for sure. But this kind of courts suits him quite well.

Andy Roddick replaced by Mardy Fish as the top ranked US player last year and he admitted to burden of the role, at the Open 13 last week, weighed heavily. He told that certainly it is not same than in the past being the 3rd or 4th or tenth American, at times.

The game that he played last week in Marseille teases a lot more than it used to as you do not want those guys to have that over you. You do not want those guys to defeat you. You do not want to give players and your colleagues the idea that you are also vulnerable. Fish is not at all happy about his 3 – 2 start to 2012 season but enjoyed his experience of Davis Cup.
