Fish has not played much tennis after the US Open last year because of his heart issues. He missed the initial parts of the ongoing season, then, he came back to take part in the Indian Wells.

After making his comeback in that tournament in March, Fish had said, “The last few months were very tough for me. It’s hard to express in words what I went through. But, I am glad that everything is alright now. I am looking to play some good tennis in the rest of the season.”

But, Fish got unwell again after that event and remained out for a few weeks. He was then given the wild card entry in the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger, but, he didn’t play in that tournament because of some personal problems.

After that, Fish was supposed to participate in the French Open, but, he withdrew his name from that tournament as well. So, he didn’t play even one match in the clay court season and now, he has skipped the first tournament of the grass court season as well.

Meanwhile, Fish’s compatriot Brian Baker has made it clear that he will not be taking part in the Wimbledon Championships. Baker hadn’t participated in French Open either. The 28 years old American player had injured his knee while playing in the Australian Open earlier this year. He went through the surgery after that and he hasn’t yet completely recovered. So, he has decided to withdraw from Wimbledon Championships.

The Wimbledon Championships are going to start from 24^th of June.

Hidalgo had come into this tournament after winning the Panama Cup and he seemed to have carried on that momentum here as well. In the initial parts of the match, he was looking under a bit of pressure, but, he came back in a superb fashion.

On the other hand, for the fans of Mardy Fish, it was another forgettable day. The American seemed to be in no rhythm at all. He won the first set, but, once Hidalgo started getting it right, Fish was just blown away.

In the post match interview, Hidalgo said, “I came here very late and I didn’t have enough rest before this match. I was really feeling weary in the opening set.”

“After losing the first set, I just tried to calm down a bit. I knew that I was up against a good player and I would have to play some good tennis to win the match from there.”

“Thankfully, from the second set onwards, I got my timing right. I hit the ball crisply and managed to pull off the next couple of sets.”

“I still can’t believe that I won even after being so tired. It was really an unbelievable outing for me.”

This was Fish’s first outing after the BNP Paribas Open which was played last month. In that tournament, Fish had managed to reach the third round. In the first round, he had got a bye and then, in the second round, he had got better of his countryman Bobby Reynolds. However, his campaign was ended in the third round by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

In Savannah Challenger, Fish had been given entry through wild card.

This was Fish’s first match after the US Open last year. The American player had withdrawn his name from the fourth round match because of the heart problems.

Fish won the first set in quick time, but, in the second set and in the initial parts of the final set, he struggled. He was down by 2-4 in the final set. However, he managed to pull things back and won the match.

Fish looked very happy after winning his comeback match. Talking to the reporters, he said, “It’s fantastic to be back. I missed tennis a lot and was very excited before this match. I was not fluent today and that happens if you are playing after a long gap.”

“I have gone through a very tough time; that’s for sure. I was very confused towards the end of last year. I couldn’t decide whether I should retire or not.”

“There were a few people who gave me a lot of support during that time. My wife was certainly one of them and I am playing for those people.”

Fish confirmed that he will take part in the Sony Open which will start from 20^th March. Fish said, “After this tournament, I will participate in the Sony Open and thereafter, I will reassess things.”

Bobby Reynolds also expressed his delight on Fish’s comeback. He said, “I am so happy that he is back. He is a great ambassador of the game and the American fans had been waiting for his return since quite a whole. He really went through a horrendous time, but, now, everything is fine for him. Hopefully, his health will remain good in the future.”

Fish’s heart problem started when he was taking part in Sony Ericsson Open last year. His heart started beating rapidly all of a sudden and he woke up in the midnight because of that.

In one of his recent interviews, when Fish was asked about what exactly happened with him that night, he said, “Honestly speaking, that night, I felt that I would die. It was really a horrible night. My heart was beating abnormally and I didn’t know what to do. Fortunately, I survived.”

However, after that set back, Fish managed to recover and made a comeback in the Wimbledon Championship last year. Fish played decently in the Wimbledon Championship. He won three matches before getting knocked out of the tournament.

Thereafter, Fish also participated in the US Open. But, he again suffered that heart problem after securing victory over Giles Simon in the third round match.

Fish had to lock horns with the Swiss superstar Roger Federer in the fourth round, but, he didn’t take part in that match. Fish didn’t play any more matches in the remaining of the season.

In November last year, Fish made the announcement that he would not participate in the upcoming Australian Open and he would start the season by participating in the San Jose Open.

Fish later withdrew his name from San Jose Open as well and now, he has withdrawn from Delray Beach tennis Championships.

Because of not playing since the last few months, Fish has gone down in rankings. His current world ranking is 32.

Talking to the reporters, John Tobias said, “I want to inform you all that Mardy Fish will not take part in the upcoming Australian Open. He is struggling a bit with his health and he is currently not in the right frame of mind to participate in a Grand Slam. So, he has decided to opt out of the Australian Open.”

“He has had a medical check up a couple of weeks ago and according to the doctors, it’s not a major problem. If everything goes all right, Fish will be back on court in February next year.”

Fish had made a decent start to the 2012 season. He had reached the final of the AAMI Classic Tournament at Kooyong. Then, he participated in the Australian Open, but, couldn’t do well in that tournament. He was defeated by Alejandro Falla of Colombia in the second round and was knocked out of the tournament.

Fish didn’t participate in the French Open because of the heart surgery. The American player took part in the last two Grand Slams of the year, but, his performance was not impressive in both those tournaments. In the Wimbledon Championship, he was defeated by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the fourth round, while, in the US open, he left the fourth round match against Roger Federer in the middle because of the health issues.
